When the Night Comes – a moon painting

Revisiting a series I had painted awhile ago…

I’ve played around with the colors somewhat and experimented with using Golden’s soft ground to get the flowing watercolor effect. I’ve always been drawn to moons and celestial bodies, lately even more so. The colors in this one make me feel peaceful. Moon hanging in a deep blue and turquoise sky fading into purple. Ethereal drip, fade effect painting

Not sure why, but lately I’ve been drawn to the more spiritual side of things and enjoy painting moons, orbs and planets. Actually I’ve always had a fascination with space, but more so now. Perhaps because we are at a shift in consciousness or that we’re at galactic center? Who knows, but I will follow the feeling wherever it leads…

When working on moon and / or celestial paintings, I’m often reminded of one of my favorite Rumi quotes…

At night, I open the window and ask the moon to come and press its face against mine.

Breathe into me. Close the language-door and open the love-window.

The moon won’t use the door, only the window. ~ Rumi

PS. If you’re following along with me on Instagram (@debs_art ) then many of you know that I like to listen and dance to music while I paint. So just like a scene from The Twilight Zone, as I’m making this painting, Joe Cocker – When the Night Comes – starts playing. I kid you not! DoodooDOOdoo! DoodooDOOdoo!

Cheers,
Deb
