Making of Vortex of Thought

The making of this abstract painting titled Vortex of Thought came together very organically after just 2 sittings,.

Another collaborative abstract painting

This has become kind of a fun exercise for me, painting with other people. Creating artwork is usually a solitary occupation. But my friend Ashlee Nichols and I painted this together on a spur of the moment.

And to think, it all started with a text message…

Yup, I received a text from Ashlee asking if she could come by. Now I’m not gonna lie, I try to guard my time and get the most out of a 10- 12 hour work day. However, when a friend is in need , I try to be there for them. Even if it’s only to listen.

Imbued with healing affirmations

We talked so much that evening that we were quickly solving the worlds problems, all while enjoying a bottle of white wine. Next, we opened a bottle of red. And it was somewhere in there that we grabbed this 30″ x 40″ canvas and began painting. It’s funny, we were so focused on healing (isn’t that the mantra lately?) that we wrote healing affirmations within the layers of glazed paint.

The next day I worked on it some more, adding a few tweaks here and there, but largely, leaving it alone. This painting came from the heart with no judgement and no filter. But sometimes you just have to live life that way.

Have an amazing New Year! Wishing you much love and good health in 2019…

“This painting came from the heart with no judgement and no filter. But sometimes you just have to live life that way.” I’ve been thinking along this line a lot myself. Worries and guilt are taking over and I aim for some heartfelt freedom! This weekend I may merge painting with sewing and see what happens…no I do not NEED to do it. I want to.

Well then I hope you do it Things can be cray-cray, but creating-no matter what you do-is what makes us who we are. I hope you’ll blog about your creation Mary Ellen, even if you send me a pic, I’d love to see. Go for it, you have absolutely nothing to lose except maybe a little fear or guilt.. Live your life in abundance – it’s all we got!

Have a beautiful and creative year in 2019! And I think I should keep in mind your wonderful words and live (and create) more from the heart, with no judgement and no filter. This is an amazing piece of advice!

I have always found creative collaboration to be great fun. And the best part is that you never know what it will turn into. This painting surely came out extraordinary beautiful.

You enjoy it too Otto?! Excellent! Yes, it’s very liberating and FUN (most of the times). This was pure joy for the both of us and it just so happened to find a new home this week, thanks to Saatchi Art.
