Melting Glaciers – New Painting

Last week’s painting

Here’s one of last weeks paintings I finished, it’s titled – Melting Glaciers

“Melting Glaciers” Is a call to action for humans to ACT in accordance to stem the tide of global warming. Heavily textured impasto.

Most times I love painting with thick paints and heavy gel mediums. By using these thick heavy body paints together with heavy gel medium I’m able to get some interesting textures and patterns and really transfer the emotion I feel about a subject onto the canvas. The texture of the cross in this painting symbolizes the ultra conservative views of 1. not believing there is such a thing as global warming and that if it does the rapture is coming anyway 2. the idea that a band-aid attempt of half-assed measures will do anything to fix it. Stepping off soapbox now….

I love textures, maybe it’s because I’m a tactile person. For instance I love 400 thread count sheets – anything under 300 is too scratchy for me. Those of you who are tactile will probably know what I’m talking about, otherwise you’re probably saying “what the hell”?

Anyway, I used to use the Liquitex Super Heavy Gel, but was turned on to Nova Super Gel #209 by fellow artist Ruth Collis who rocks this gel like no other!  If you like texture in your paintings, then this is the heavy gel gloss medium for you! Nova Color also sells great paints and other mediums too. Oh, and I’m not an affiliate,  just mentioning them as a resource if you’re interested.

You can see the textures & patterns in this side view hanging on the wall.

Why is it that when you see images on the internet, it’s never as good as seeing them in person?! Anyway, thanks for looking have a great day!

Amen! to all of this, Deb. The painting, the texture, the message behind the painting, and Nova Color!
I’ve been in painting limbo lately, but maybe some gel will be the way out!

I really love what you’re doing, Deb. Your colors and textures speak to me. One day I’m going to hang one of your pieces in our home. I just have to figure out which one I like best. Keep on creating!
