The time is NOW to rise with optimism…
Whew, so much has happened here in the United States, or should I say Divided States of America, it’s hard to rise with optimism. It has been really difficult to concentrate on creating. Seems like I just get started in the studio, the phone rings and it’s another person calling… We commiserate, get it out of our system, share a few laughs, call our representatives and then pull each other through one more day once again.

My duty as an artist
One of my friends sent me an email (thank you Patrice!) of a prospectus for an art show coming up next month – the theme is political. And although I prefer fun pop-art expressionism and abstract, I feel compelled to paint. If only just to get these emotions out of me. Laid bare, exposed, recognized, realized. Maybe it feels this way because this election has been like no other I’ve witnessed as a voter in my lifetime. Because for me it’s about HUMAN RIGHTS and a possible WWIII with someone whose fingers the size of a Vienna Sausage and an ego the size of Mount Rushmore having access to nuclear codes. I see the fearfulness and hatred spreading Nationalism across the globe and it’s my duty as an artist to tell my story, how I see and feel it…
Five stages of grief
So amid the recent political climate I’ve come to realize that many of us are experiencing or have experienced the 5 stages of grief.
I’m sure many felt Barack Obama was not born an American (birther movement), going to take away our guns, set up death panels – yada, yada and we all came to see that none of those things happened and weren’t true. So, let’s be vigilant and see what happens… The hot winds of change are in the air. And though change is sometimes uncomfortable, it’s almost always necessary…
Like him or not…
He has managed to spur a movement, a connection, a reLOVElution that in many ways happened much faster and more powerful than anyone could have imagined. So thank you!! He has evoked us to march, sing, get active and participate. But even MORE important he has shown us that WE have the POWER, not the government. In the end it is US, the WE, that will make the world a more loving and inclusive place. And the hollow wealth of a few, – be replaced with a more loving, caring, compassionate people.
Shift in awareness…
So today I write because something powerful happened… Sometime between laying my head down on the pillow last night, and waking up this morning, there was a shift in my consciousness! I’m not sure really what happened, but I awoke feeling hopeful and supremely optimistic. Not only have I come to ACCEPTance, but I welcome the change with a loving heart and an open mind. Do I think things will be rosy – hmmm, who can tell? They say change is not always easy, but I’m up for the task, what about you?!
Wishing you lots of creativity!
So take my hand and let’s walk this path together as we lift each other up!! Whether you paint it with pictures, say it with words, sing it with songs, cook it with foods, share it with actions, or build it with tools! Create, love, be human, just BE…
My muse is calling… she’s been playing “hide and seek” lately, so when she showed up this morning I promised her a play date!
Love each other hard, and love each other well,
