Spring Equinox – Abstract Painting by Deb Breton
Spring Equinox just occurred here in the Northern Hemisphere, marking the first day of spring when the sun crosses the celestial equator going from south to north. A time that heralds in an earlier sunrise and nightfall that will come later. Plants are sprouting, winds are softening and for us in the Northern Hemisphere, we are enjoying the warmer days of spring! After this past winter, I’ve been looking forward to spring and all the new blooms and veggies found in the garden. This painting reflects the energy of this new life.
Some of you have expressed an interest in what goes on into making a painting.
I don’t want to bore you with all the details, but basically, ideas start in my head, then go to sketches where I work out the composition and values details with pastels and colored pencils.
After this, THEN the real fun begins, the painting process! Sometimes I play guitar to get warmed up and maybe I’ll light a little incense, smudge the room and do a little meditation. This bit of preparation goes in to every painting, imbuing a little positive energy into everything I create…

Happy SPRING! or Happy FALL if you’re in the southern hemisphere….
